Microsoft Bing has released a WordPress plugin that allows you to easily integrate the IndexNow protocol into your website.
Microsoft Bing has released a new WordPress plugin that makes it easy to integrate your WordPress blog and site with the IndexNow protocol. The plugin was released over the holidays and is available here in the WordPress plugin directory.
What is it about.
The IndexNow WordPress plugin allows automatic submission of URLs from WordPress sites to multiple search engines without the need to register and verify your site with them. Once installed, the plugin will automatically generate and host the API key on your site. Detect creating / updating / deleting pages in WordPress and automatically send URLs in the background. This ensures that search engines always have the latest updates on your site, Microsoft wrote.
What is IndexNow?
IndexNow provides website owners with a method to instantly notify search engines of the latest changes to their website content. IndexNow is a simple ping protocol that lets search engines know that a URL and its content have been added, updated, or removed, allowing search engines to quickly reflect this change in search results.
Currently, both Microsoft Bing and Yandex have adopted the protocol, but Google is expected to test it too. IndexNow is used by more than 60,000 sites using CloudFlare.
How does it work.
The protocol is very simple: all you have to do is create a key on your server and then send a URL to the search engine to notify the search engines participating in IndexNow of the change. The steps include:
- Generate a protocol compliant key using the online key generation tool.
- Host the key in a text file named with the key value at the root of your website.
- Start submitting URLs when your URLs are added, updated or removed. You can submit one URL or set of URLs per API call.
The WordPress plugin makes everything easier and you don’t need to go through all these steps to set it up.
How to install it.
To install the IndexNow WordPress plugin, follow these steps:
Log into the admin panel of your WordPress site. Click “Plugins> Add New”.
Search for “IndexNow Plugin” and install it.
Once installed, click “Activate” to enable the plug-in.
Go to the IndexNow administration page and click “Let’s get started”.
Because we are interested. As we said earlier, instant indexing is an SEO’s dream when it comes to providing search engines with the most up-to-date content on a site. The protocol is very simple and requires very little effort from developers to add it to your site, so it makes sense to implement it if you care about indexing speed. Plus, if you use Cloudflare, you can activate it with the flick of a switch.
Now, if you have WordPress, you can follow the above steps to activate IndexNow easily.
